Different Approaches for Reviving a Laptop Battery

by Piper

Batteries are the main source of power for all laptops. If a battery is faulty, the laptop fails to function properly and requires fixing. If it the Asus model, you can replace it on A41-X550A or get a new laptop altogether. However, it depends on how much money you’re willing to spend. Avoid batteries that are sold way below the standard market price. They are mostly of poor quality and develop problems later on. In this extract, we expound on the methods of fixing a laptop battery.

Methods of Fixing a Laptop Battery

Some laptop batteries become faulty and stop working unexpectedly. The price of the batteries is usually high, and buying a new one is a challenge to some people. We explain how you can fix or restore it from your home down below.

1. Battery Recalibration

When the computer’s operating system fails to show the exact battery percentage, recalibration of the battery becomes necessary. This happens when the laptop is continuously plugged in, and the battery never runs out of power. To calibrate the battery again, charge it till full, then unplug from the power source, keep it on but don’t use it till it drains completely. During this time, the battery is also cooling down. When the laptop goes off, leave it in that state for about 3 to 4 hours, then charge it again until full.

2. Cool the Battery

Batteries get damaged when exposed to high temperatures or factors within the device that make them heat up. If the laptop is already hot, switch it off and remove the battery to cool for a couple of minutes. You can also use cooling pads to bring the temperatures down by placing them under your device while using it. Cool temperatures help the battery resume its functions and prolong its lifespan. Battery cooling works well with Lithium-ion batteries, so know the type of battery you’re using first before settling for this method.

3. Battery Freezing

Nickel Cadmium and Nickel-Metal Hybrid batteries are revived successfully using this method. Start by switching off the laptop, removing the battery, wrapping in a cloth, and putting it in a Ziploc bag to keep off moisture. Place the bag in a freezer for approximately 10 hours to restore some charge cycles. Beyond that, the battery may leak, causing further damage. Remove from the freezer and let it get back to room temperature. Later, put it back in the laptop, charge to 100%, discharge it fully, then recharge again.

4. Disconnect the Laptop When Full

Most people work on a laptop when plugged into a power source and fail to disconnect it when full. The battery starts to fail progressively and suddenly stalls. After charging until full, unplug from the power source and use it until 5 to 10 percent of the charge is left and recharge again. The percentage of charge left depends on the battery type as some get damaged if they go that low. For, example 35% is recommended for Lithium-ion and then charge to about 80% full.

Conclusion

Battery restoration is possible using the methods mentioned above. However, if you think it’s not safe to handle the battery yourself, it’s best to seek help from an expert. If the problem is beyond fixing, buy a new battery from a reputable store for the best quality and affordable price.
